Write & Publish Your Own e-Books
& Reports
by Barbara Casey
(1) Do you have an area of expertise you would like to share
with others, but you don't want to go through the hassle
of publishing, printing and distributing a regular 200-page
book?
(2) Do you have a flair for writing "how-to" information, or
have you accumulated lists of resources that a specific
group of people could really use?
(3) Do you possess knowledge that someone else would pay
you to learn?
If your head was nodding "Yes" to any of these questions,
you might seriously consider writing and publishing your
own eBook -- especially if you already have a website or blog from
which to distribute it.
An eBook can be a great way to get information to the
marketplace quickly.
An eBook doesn't have to be a massive tome, either. I've
seen eBooks in the 40-page range (though I also own the 700+ page
Make
Your Site Sell, which is now free).
You can sell an eBook right from your website using the credit card services of
ClickBank
or
PayPal both of which
are easy to set up and relatively inexpensive. With ClickBank you can easily set
up an affiliate program, too.
You don't need a fancy book layout program to create an
eBook -- good old Microsoft Word will do just fine. You don't even need to buy
Adobe Acrobat to make your e-book anymore. You can create a PDF free at
www.pdf995.com.
**IMPORTANT** When making a copyrighted PDF document, use security settings that restrict modifying or
copying your text but that do allow printing.
EBooks are stored online. You don't have to stack boxes
of books in your spare bedroom or pay storage fees to
warehouse them.
You don't even have to pay for printing eBooks. Your
customers download the book to read on their computer
and print out just the pages they want, when they want.
EBooks are often priced according to the depth, breadth,
intensity, or even scarcity, of the expert content contained
in them. I've purchased eBooks priced from $15 to $50, and
have seen others pushing the $200 mark.
In Jim Edwards and Joe Vitale's popular eBook
How
to Write and Publish Your Own
e-Book in as Little as 7 Days, they list
the top 10 reasons people buy anything. If you have expert
knowledge that can help people accomplish any of these
10 wants and needs, you could create a "passive" income
for yourself -- and gain an international reputation -- by authoring an eBook.
Top 10 reasons why people buy:
(1) To make money
(2) To save money
(3) To save time
(4) To avoid effort
(5) To get more comfort
(6) To achieve greater cleanliness/hygiene
(7) To attain fuller health
(8) To escape physical pain
(9) To gain praise or recognition
(10) To be popular

My all-time favorite
for e-book beginners, by
Alexis Dawes
Learn how to create e-books for people who actually want to buy what
you write. Find out how being a "problem solver" can make you money.
This e-book will steer you right. Please note, Alexis' style
is to-the-point, but her information is golden.
Make Your Knowledge Sell

Turn your business knowledge, hobby or even what you know from your day job
into "info-products" you can sell on the Internet.
$7 Secrets Report
I also like this special report about e-reports. If you don't
want to start a bigger project like an e-book, but have information
to share that you think people will pay for, consider starting out
with special reports. I call mine tutorials, since I'm "The
Tutorial Lady."
(I write e-books, too, but I really like the many ways you can use e-reports. You
can see some of my
e-reports listed here.)
Happy writing!
