~~ THE HEART OF YOUR BUSINESS ~~

What is your business about, really?

While your title might say massage therapist, success 
coach, online entrepreneur, spiritual teacher or marketing
consultant... what is it that you actually DO for people?

I ask this question seriously, because I know how long it
took me to truly understand what I do for my own clients,
which is to show them a higher, grander vision of their
business and their own greatness as part of that equation.

For literally years I danced around various aspects of
marketing and a number of different target markets,
feeling my way to the heart of my business. I tried on
this hat and that hat. Need a brochure typeset? Sure,
I can do that. Want a press release written? Why not.
I even made simple ads for a local print shop at one time.

And while all of this work was a terrific learning
experience, it was not work that made my heart sing.

What I discovered during this time, however, was that
I was becoming very fussy about what people said in 
their marketing materials. I felt very strongly that their 
written communications should be clear, heartfelt and
client-centered. But if you look at most advertisements,
whether in print or other media, you'll see that most of
them are not clear, heartfelt or client-centered.

And I discovered the reason for this, too.

Most business owners simply don't take the time and
effort to understand what makes them different from
everyone else in their field. You're a massage therapist?
Well, so are thousands of others. A coach? My goodness,
have you done a web search for "coach" lately? There
are over 6 million coach websites listed on Google.

From a marketing point of view, the only thing you have
going for you is that which makes you unique in a sea
of similar businesses. What education and training, what
heartfelt passion, what sense of inner purpose, what
special gifts and talents combine to create a business
vision that gives you goosebumps? That excites you
about getting up each day? That attracts clients to you
like a magnet? That feels so right, you wonder where it's
been hiding all this time?

When you figure this out, you've discovered the heart
of your business... and most likely the mission of your 
soul as well.

Now, you can speak to prospective clients with conviction.
Now you can write clear, heartfelt, client-centered 
advertisements, because you know what your business
is about and the unique benefits people gain by using 
your products and services.

Now you can speak from your heart to my heart about
why I should do business with you, and not someone
else. People purchase with their feelings and then
justify their purchase intellectually. Getting to the heart
of the matter isn't just airy "feel-good" advice; it's basic
marketing theory that has been proven to work.

Understanding your uniqueness - getting to the heart of
your business - and then positioning this uniqueness in the
marketplace is the single most important thing you can do
to catch the attention of your prospective clients.
