~~ THE CONSTANT MARKETER ~~
I was sitting in my home office, thinking. While I was
thinking, I looked out the window. Then I stopped
thinking and just enjoyed the view, which now included a
profusion of blooms on the orchid tree across the road.
Then I started thinking again. Nature is so faithful in all
her seasons. Trees and flowers bloom like clockwork. You
can count on Good Old Mother Nature to do her thing.
It's a good model for business, too. Remember what
happened when Coca Cola tried to change "The Real
Thing?" It was as if they had cancelled spring. People
resisted the change to this major constant in their lives.
A "constant" is something unvariable or unchanging.
Something people come to know and trust. Something
they have faith in.
When Coke broke faith with its patrons, it opened the
door -- wide -- for rivals to step in and attempt to "claim
the throne." Coca Cola lost customers because they
confused them about what Coke stood for. What would
you order -- the "real thing" or "what's this new stuff?"
With Mother Nature and Coke as examples, see how
well you do on this little marketing test:
(1) Do you know what your business stands for?
(2) Do you have a definitive position in the marketplace?
(3) Do the people who need your services know
exactly how you can help them?
(4) Do you advertise consistently and frequently so
people know where to find you when they need you?
Your marketing needs to be as constant as the seasons.
People are more likely to do business with you if they are
familiar with you. If you stay faithful to your marketing
plan and become ultra clear and compelling in your
marketing message, you will be rewarded.
Once you can answer "Yes" to all the questions in the
little marketing test, stick with the program. Remember
the Rule of 7 -- it can take up to 7 exposures within an
18-month period for people to notice your marketing.
That's why constancy is important.
~~ CAN YOU WRITE AN E-BOOK? ~~
Do you have an area of expertise you would like to share
with others, but you don't want to go through the hassle
of publishing, printing and distributing a regular 200-page
book?
Do you have a flair for writing "how-to" information, or
have you accumulated lists of resources that a specific
group of people could really use?
Do you possess knowledge that someone else would pay
you to learn?
If your head was nodding "Yes" to any of these questions,
you might seriously consider writing and publishing your
own eBook -- especially if you already have a website from
which to distribute it.
An eBook can be a great way to get information to the
marketplace quickly.
An eBook doesn't have to be a massive tome, either. I've
seen eBooks in the 40-page range (though I also own the
700+ page "Make Your Site Sell").
You can sell an eBook right from your website using the
credit card services of ClickBank or PayPal, both of which
are easy to set up and relatively inexpensive.
You don't need a fancy book layout program to create an
eBook -- good old Microsoft Word will do just fine. You do,
however, need to purchase, or have access to, the full
version of Adobe Acrobat software to format your book as
a PDF file (which people can read with Acrobat Reader, a
f-r-e-e- downloadable program at http://www.adobe.com).
EBooks are stored online. You don't have to stack boxes
of books in your spare bedroom or pay storage fees to
warehouse them.
You don't even have to pay for printing eBooks. Your
customers download the book to read on their computer
and print out just the pages they want, when they want.
EBooks are often priced according to the depth, breadth,
intensity, or even scarcity, of the expert content contained
in them. I've purchased eBooks priced from $15 to $50, and
have seen others pushing the $200 mark.
In Jim Edwards and Joe Vitale's eBook "How to Write and
Publish Your Own eBook...in as Little as 7 Days," they list
the top 10 reasons people buy anything. If you have expert
knowledge that can help people accomplish any of these
10 wants and needs, you could create a "passive" income
for yourself -- and gain an international reputation to boot
-- by authoring an eBook.
Top 10 reasons why people buy:
(1) To make money
(2) To save money
(3) To save time
(4) To avoid effort
(5) To get more comfort
(6) To achieve greater cleanliness/hygiene
(7) To attain fuller health
(8) To escape physical pain
(9) To gain praise or recognition
(10) To be popular
Here are three eBooks that tell you all about...eBooks.
The links will take you to their respective websites
where you can assess which book(s) will suit your needs
best.
