"There is no need for advertisements to look
like advertisements. If you make them look like
editorial
pages, you will attract about
50 percent more readers."
--David Ogilvy, author of
"Confessions of an Advertising Man"
~~ PROTECTORS OF THE LAND AND ITS PEOPLE ~~
In days of yore, before armies organized themselves into
permanent institutions, the land and its people were
protected by a network of knights. The knights swore
fealty to their lord and were given a purpose in life in
exchange.
You had to train to be a knight, passing many tests along
the way. You had to prove yourself in battle, too. Knights
had a unique status in society; they were a kind of noble
warrior--educated, looked up to, and brave when it
counted.
After much testing and battle hardening, a knight finally
"won his spurs" and joined the ranks of the lesser
knights
where he polished his skills and learned to conduct himself
with knight-worthy decorum.
So why am I talking about knights? Mostly, I guess, to take
another look at the tradition itself and to see how it fits in
the world of today.
I think all of us in holistic and spiritual work have something
of the "noble warrior"
in us. Only our armor isn't hard and
shiny; it's light and swirling with energy -- a healthy aura.
Goodness knows we've been tested -- many, many, many,
many, many times.
Of course, the bloodiest battles are the ones within
ourselves. And the conflicts which seem to require the
most courage are those between our personality/ego and
our
higher nature (or between *our* will and You Know
Whose.)
Is this sounding familiar?
Let's look at the work of "protecting the land and its
people." As the teachers, healers and spiritual guides of the
planet, can you identify with this job description?
What about fealty and life purpose (higher calling)? Are
you starting to believe maybe you're one of these noble
warriors after all? And moving up in the ranks? Teaching
the newbies the ropes?
When you think about it, there really is a new, global
network of knights. Many of them call themselves
"lightworkers." But I think we've graduated now. I think
we could more appropriately dub ourselves "the knights
of light" or, if we're being friendly, "knight lights."
Even knights (of light) have to eat. That means we
need thriving businesses. Perhaps now's a good time
to review your own business to see if it's sufficiently
knightworthy/lightworthy.
1) How strong and passionate is your vision? Are you
spending the most time doing what you love and what
your clients need?
2) How focused is your marketing? Have you designed
a bona fide, unique niche that you can "own" in the
marketplace? Can you accurately describe the essence
of your business in one or two powerful sentences?
3) Have you committed to a marketing plan with
enough budget to execute it? The trick is to use
marketing tools worthy of your position, and that includes
your brochures, flyers, business cards, newsletters, ads,
trade show booths, even your wardrobe.
With passion, focus and a plan, anything is possible.
With proper tools, the work proceeds more smoothly.
When you review your own situation, does your
business feel solid around you, or are you still
grabbing at any and all "opportunities" that come your
way? Juggling swords is lethal. Business juggling --
and spotty marketing -- puts your energy all out of
whack, and confuses prospective clients.
It's hard to "protect the land and its people" when
your own house is out of order.
Fortunately, there's help. It's online and it's economical.
For a straightforward, step-by-step guide that shows
you

business niche that feels "like home" and then

2) Are you ready to embrace the new technologies?
Here is information about two very interesting and
potentially lucrative teaching situations. To market them
properly, it would help to have (i) your own website and
(ii)
your own email newsletter or access to advertising in other
people's ezines, in order to attract the numbers
necessary
to make these methods cost-effective.
(a) Okay, here's the first teaching option: Teleseminars and
Teleclasses. These are classes you hear about online, but
the teacher and students are actually connected by
telephones, through a "bridge" phone center. You get to
talk back and forth with your real voices. You market online
to a national audience via your website, ezines,
banner
ads, email notices, and events calendars on websites such
as ThinkHolistic.com, but you use familiar
technology to
conduct your class.
Dan Janal of PR Leads (http://www.prleads.com)
recommends a company called Great Teleseminars to
host these events for you. These folks offer price ranges
for 25, 50 and 100 participants. In addition to setting up
the
phone bridge, they record the session, duplicate
cassettes or CD's (which you can sell from your website),
transcribe
it in writing, take orders and process the credit
card fees that participants pay for the class.
If you are in demand for speaking, but just can't get
everywhere, this could be a useful method for conducting
classes and seminars -- without leaving your living room or
office. Visit http://www.greatteleseminars.com
(b) The second method is online e-classes. Marketing
writer Joe Vitale has written an e-book called "How You
Can Make
$5,000 - $15,000 Each Time You Teach Your
Very Own E-Mail Only E-Classes." I haven't read this
book, but I have
read some of his others and he does
deliver the goods. (He wrote the book "Spiritual
Marketing.")
This e-book appears to be the result of an e-course on the
same subject which
"attendees paid $600 to $1200 each"
to receive. If you want to learn how to teach classes via
e-mail, here's the link for Joe's books:
http://hop.clickbank.net/hop.cgi?nrebooks/outrageous
3) Joe Vitale has written a new e-book for authors called
"How ANY Book Can Become An Amazon Bestseller!"
I've
seen Joe in action on this type of promotion (bought one of
the books being offered, too). The method is pretty
neat,
but it would help if you had access to a lot of email
addresses to make it really work well. You also have to
have your book for sale on Amazon.com
Are you game to try Joe's method for making your book
an Amazon blockbuster? Here's the link for info:

~~ MARKETING TIP TO BOOST MAIL RESPONSE ~~
Hand-Jotted Notes (by Catherine Groves)
This tip surprised me with its astonishing results. Myself? I
am never impressed with personal notes penned onto
the
top of a promotional mailer. If the product itself doesn't
interest me, I trash the flyer -- handwritten
scribble and
all.
But handwritten notes do bring results! For the past
few years, I've taken to jotting a personal greeting on
standard marketing pieces and have seen my response
rate more than double! And others have similar success
rates. One prominent communications specialist I know,
who commands upwards of $1000 for an hour of his time,
writes a warm hello on every promotional letter leaving
his
office. Considering his hourly fee, that's an astounding
investment of his time. But it works and it's worth it!
