On the Skinny Branch

by Barbara Casey

Over the years, the tone and content of my online newsletter, Messages from the Soapbox, has revised and evolved as my own understanding of my work has revised and evolved. Even the name of my ezine has changed since its first issue in 2001.

We're no longer in a time of static, traditional business operations. As soon as we think we "get" what our business is really about, doors close, doors open... and we reach a new level in the game.

So how do we keep our business viable with all these changes going on?

As we evolve in consciousness, and as our skill levels increase, we become more particular about how we want to do business - and with whom. Our fee structure might rise, with our "target market" adjusting accordingly.

Then, too, we might want to focus more deeply on our soul's urging, rather than settle for work that feels stale and old-hat, or that just doesn't make our heart sing, no matter what.

As we get more selective about what we want to do, we may realize that what we actually need is a business niche. We've discovered that "serving humanity" is a bit too broad-based and, besides, we find we're attracted vibrationally more to some people than to others.

So what do we do next?

One of my clients is a very talented writer who discovered the Emotional Freedom Techniques a few years ago, and got such good personal results from it, she took the course and hung out her shingle as an EFT practitioner herself. After a few months of offering help with a wide range of issues - including improving your golf game - she found that people were not beating a path to her door, no matter how excellent a service she provided.

Here's what happened in just one phone coaching session.

It became super-evident that golf was not her passion and that, while helping people heal a variety of issues was satisfying, her real passion lay in helping women with "missing mother syndrome" - the daughters who were abandoned by their mothers, either physically or emotionally, when they were young children.

And a new niche was born.

You have only to visit my client's website to see how much she cares about helping women heal from the long term effects of early mother loss. This is a very specific niche with millions of potential clients - and it works.

Check it out for yourself at
www.missingmother.com.

My own work has evolved over the years, too, into a narrower and more refined niche. As I worked with the individuals the Universe delivered to me as clients, I couldn't help but notice a definite trend in our sessions toward a higher vision than the client thought was possible for their business. The nature of my clientele sifted toward spiritual authors, teachers and wayshowers with a clear message to impart.

And a niche was clarified.

I discovered that I most enjoy researching and sharing resources for this audience. I'm always on the lookout for articles, teleclasses and books for holistic and personal growth coaches, authors and teachers, particularly those whose mission is raising consciousness and speaking Truth.

And my job is to help them bring their message and vision to the marketplace.

A coach I worked with last year called me a "vision pusher."

Sometimes we could all use a little nudge to move us out of our comfort zone and on to the skinny branch.
